Best of luck...sri lankan sinhalese and sri lankan tamils...I hope you can accept each other's perspectives and move away from extreme positions.sri lanka is such a beautiful country. i hope i can visit again and explore the northern areas..here's wishing peace with dignity (not subjugation) for all.
If you talk to a Sri Lankan tamil - they are under the impression that Sinhalese people are barbaric and we cannot live with them in peace. If you talk to Sinhalese they say the same.
The thing is - it is difficult to change people's views and opinions. The whole thing about history and religion and discussing what people did thousands of years back and why people are killing now and linking things is just an example of how a human mind is oriented.
We can clap only if two hands join. If one part seeks peace and the other does not - then it is not as easy as we all preach.
Lets take the example of how difficult it is for us to get any legislation passed to help clear our backlogs and resolve our issues. Now, why is it so difficult? It is not because the system is noy good - no one other than US who suffer will agree the system is not working. If you step into the shoes of someone from the other side - you will realise that - things are not easy, especially to deal with Beurocracy.

Write them a letter saying that you were educated in English and you are proficient inEnglish. They dont care for IELTS if you apply for US.

If USCIS and DOS were thinking logically what you said would have made sense but time and again they have proved that they act as if they are the masters of there own universe. Example South Korea had about 7000+ Eb2 visas but they are not considered retrogressed country (but that is a side matter, my point is they have there own weird logic and they dont care to disclose the logic behind there decisions.) For eb2 india forward movement to happen spillover of Visas from Eb1->eb2 row->eb2 India should happen every quarter. USCIS and DOS have given no indication what so ever that the spillover would happen every quarter, without spillover we have to wait till august\spetember 2010 for spillover. All you can do is just hope for the best. I am not sure why DOS would not disclose if spillover happens every quarter or not. With this data from USCIS they know the demand for the visas to do spillover every quarter.
I believe that to maintain a steady 485 EB2-I queue the dates should advance fairly fast till maybe the end of 2007 much sooner than September. Following are the reasons, 6 months back probably there were less pre-adjudicated applications so the focus was reviewing and completing these cases, now most of the applications are pre-adjudicated and the route for steady approvals looks clear like what has happened in Sep 2009 for 2004 cases. Also I would like to ask the posters here who say that SL tamils are discrimanated, can you please post the things that a SL Tamil is NOT allowed to do in Sri Lanka that a Sinhalese is allowed. I am curious to know what they are. :D

Tamils lead regular life in other areas of the country that's not succumbed to the war, this includes the capital, colombo. They conduct business, attend universities/schools, they lead a regular life just like any other sinhala or muslims. Tamils lead prosperous lives in other parts than the north and east. The reason they can't live in the north or east is due to their own LTTE, the group that was supposed to liberate tamils.
If there's ethnic cleansing or genocide against tamils, Sinhala and muslim people should be killing tamils all over the country. This is not case in Sri Lanka. I have tamil friends and classmates, we went to school together. How come there are tamil ministers in the parliament. Parliment members Lakshman Kadirgamar and Jeyaraj Fernandopulle both tamils and were killed by the LTTE not the gov. How can this be ethnic cleansing?

Since this can potentially be a great win for us, why don't we take the advice of a top constitutional attorney. I am sure the attorney will be able to tell us if we have a case. As for the cost, I think an hours time of any attorney will be peanuts compared to what we can afford.

While we must pursue the overall reforms,
i suggest that we also seek temporary relief seeking lifting of the ban on filing for 485 for the next 2-3 months... this will help most EB3 and EB2 (I/C/) who missed the 2007 window.
What are the chances of such a relief being provided?
Will a mail campaign work?..plz raise your hand if you are interested..;)

This is an old artical I was able to dig up. These LTTE members have been living in colombo for 15 years. Its hard for the military to pin point terrorist among so many tamils. That's why they asked them to justify their stay in colombo. Its not a pretty situation, if the military doesn't question then the LTTE would have already taken over the capital.
This is just one incident, so far military have found many times, large number of weapons are explosives from houses in Colombo.

Dude, I am not supporting anyone here. Neither Train tragedy not the killing of 2000 innocents. No civilized person would ever support any kind of innocent killing. You missed my point here. I am born and brought up in Hyderabad old city and had seen numerous community riots for nothing. Always its the " INNOCENTS " who gets suffered. These things gets created for nothing. If Tamil issue == LTTE, no Indian would support (and a significant majority of SL Tamils themselves will not support). Every single LTTE member has to be brought to the court if possible or they should perish in the war. However noble their intention was, their means is called Terrorism, which any civil person should oppose. Now don't draw any arguments about Black July or Sinhalese Only policy of 1960s. While we are all sharing about our Amway solicitation experiences, let me share what I've seen in the last few years.
Background: In the last 6 years, I've been approached over 2 dozen times in the Bay Area. Things got so bad that the same guys have approached me more than 3 times in some cases before realizing that they've already talked to me before.
Incident #1:
A guy approached me while I was at the mall saying "hi" and striking up a conversation. During our short chat, this 20-something desi guy proceeds to tell me that he is the CIO of Fox News. At which time I pull out my iPhone and look him up using my LinkedIn app under the guise of adding him to my network. Turns out he is an engineer at a local company which he covers up by being embarassed and saying "I haven't updated my profile." I joke about how he moved up in his career so quickly - he then makes an excuse and walks away. I never hear from him again. Another reason to love technology!
Incident #2:
I get approached while shopping at the local GAP store. Being a veteran of this form of solicitation, I respond by saying that I work for the San Jose Mercury News and that we are doing a story on Multi-Level Marketing schemes. I ask him if he knows anyone who would be willing to chat on the record. This guys says "Nope, don't know anyone" and walks away. I never see him again...
Incident #3:
I am at the Nike store and get approached by this guy asking me if I work at Google (I do not). I tell him "Nope" and walk away before he can ask me another question. I have been approached by this same guy 2 more times at other stores (within 6 months) asking me similar questions. The 3rd time, I tell him - "We've spoken before - No, I don't work at Google, No, I'm not from Delhi and No, I'm not interested in what you are selling." He is stunned and walks away with his tail between his legs :)

The local Fry's is a popular hang out for Amway-types. I learned the hard way because I made my first mistakes here. Both guys that struck up a good conversation with me turned out to be Amway types. After the 2nd phone call, I tell them that if they call me again, I will report them to the authorities and Fry's for illegal solicitation and harassment.
This stops both people in their tracks. I never see them at Fry's again!
Bottom-line: Hold your ground, use technology and don't be afraid to kick them around a little bit. Saying "No" is golden!

My question is, hypothetically if in future if there is a war between USA and India, and hypothetically you become a US citizen, how do you conform to the oath?

It is pretty much proven that in your mental territory you have already ditched India and it is the USA which will take long to grant you a GC and then afterwards citizenship for which you almost represented your beggar like mentality. But that is not my concern and should not be. I have only one question to you and I hope youwould try to answer it with all possible honesty.
Q: What will be your view regarding USA's official policy to consider LTTE a terrorist organisation? ONce you will be come US citizen how will you align yourself with this policy?
