Posted the letter to whitehouse address with the following contents:
"I am writing to inform you of how the country based quotas imposed on Employment Based green cards are unfair and illogical. I came to the US with the belief that this country is a meritocracy where you are judged based on your abilities and qualities. These country based quotas judge people based on their place of birth. This causes people from India and China to wait over a decade to get a green card whereas someone from another country with similar or lesser abilities can obtain permanent residence in a fraction of that time. Lack of permanent residency has made me hesitant to buy a house or to do any long term investments in US and I want to get out of this limbo at the earliest.
My requests to you are:
1. Eliminate country level quota on Green Cards (to reduce the backlog of permanent resident applicants)
2. Recapture unused permanent visa numbers from the past (to allow USCIS to issue permanent visas to eligible applicants whose applications have been processed and pre-adjudicated)
3. Issue 5-year EAD cards (to reduce workload on USCIS of administrative renewals)
4. Issue 5-year Advanced Parole document (to allow people like me stuck in the backlog to travel back and forth from USA without having to renew AP every year)

Financially, most economoists are predicting that east bay market is bound to fall further. (I would not discount the opinion of CNN Money easily).
That having been said, I agree that living in a house is definitely more about feeling than about finances.
How does someone know when is the right time to buy a home? Anytime is a good time to buy a home, as long as you can afford it. I thought the last few months were good time for buyers because of the inventory situation (more choices or otherwise you bid usually in CA) - I dont think anyone can predict the market situation in 5 years and no one makes money in 2 years in a good market condition as well. I bought it 2 months ago in East bay and I am planning to hold it for another five years atleast and both spouse and I work - it is certainly not an investment for us, rather a place that we live - it is a rare feeling one gets after living in exile (apartments)

As IV grows maybe this is a help IV can extend to all its donor members and help them if they get in such extreme distress situations. This is one of the ideas we are thinking for our members in the donor group.

FYI: USCIS does not charge for Visa Lottery... It's FREE.

If you are chosen and pass the first screening, when they ask for documents you are also sending application fee that is around 500$. And GC is still not guranteed if the chosen applicant cannot persuade IO he will settle successfully. You need to show the ties, someone to help you with the job, show the moneys for the first few months, etc etc..
I personally know several people who were refused based on their family size and that they would be below poverty line if they immigrate into US.
Go figure!

we have over 25000 members and it has been 2 weeks but we are still waiting to reach 300 :-(

Hi,
I filed I485 and my I140 got cleared. My employer is not willing to give my Approved I140. I am not sure why he is holding my I140. I dont have have any idea to change job at this time.

My Attorney Says You will get 3 Year H1B Extension
Per My Attorney if We do a H1B Transfer after I-140 Approval YOU
will get 3 Year H1B Extension. EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE ALREADY USED 6 YEARS OF H1B.
I am currently on 7th Year H1B, I-140 Approved, I-485 filed more then 6 months ago. He confirmed that if i do a H1B Transfer to another employer and attach copies of all AOS receipts and "I-140 APPROVAL" i will get 3 year

Bottom line is that u got screwed. Labor is for a position with your employer. He may choose to give to anyone he wishes. Labor substitution thus was not illegal act on his part as it was permitted by the law.
I-140 is his stuff .
I-485 is ur stuff but in absence of I-140 it means nothing.
Your only case is if he has violated any of the H1 provisions.

The government is telling my family I am not an adequate person to form a family with in the U.S. because I was deported with a drug-related offence of more than 30 grams of marijuana, yet it is granting the 212(d)(3) Waiver for Non-Immigrant Visas to Aliens deported with a drug-related offence of more than 30 grams of marijuana and who wish to travel to the U.S.. United States Citizens need an Immigrant Visas Waiver available to their Alien Immediate Relatives deported with a drug-related offence of more than 30 grams of Marijuana in order to even the scales on both U.S. citizen and Alien immigration privileges concerning Deported Aliens with a Drug-Related Offence of More than 30 Grams of Marijuana.
The way things are now U.S. citizens without a criminal conviction and with Alien Immediate Relatives are being discriminated against by their own government. The needs of deported Aliens with criminal convictions are being placed before their own.
It�s pure hypocrisy and it�s my family�s and my name being placed on the line.
I mean, really, how great can the U.S. be if it�s willing to lose their citizens to aliens like me when they decide to move outside of the United States to join their Immediate and shunned Alien Relatives? The U.S. government�s violation of my family�s civil human rights to liberty, freedom of expression and equality before the law is unwarranted. I dont think we could expect such thing from our community as we are born selfish and scared of things. Everone is just hoping that some miracle will happen and everyone will get their GCs. Or else people are happy with EAD/h1b renewals.We really lack the kind of leadership and atitude we had before independece both at home in india and here.I think people have made immigration problems as part of the many problems they have in their lives.
Well, even before Indian independence, it was just a handful of population that were actively involved in the process, majority took life as it came and were afraid. In fact, there are a lot of coward stories where cowards helped the British against freedom fighters. The reason British could rule India so easily because desis are submissive and it took a long time for leaders like Mahatma Gandhi to lay a foundation and gather critical mass enought o bring about a change and the worst thing is - the only change that happened was that British govt moved out. 60 years after independence, we are still divided mentality, lack of civic sense, we claim greaatness in getting IT and BPO projects, we could not win a gold medal in Olympics nor could we make any big scientific achievement - the worst thing is we come here to US and stay divided and expect that someone will do good to us

Got the same too. I git frustrated and sent out an e-mail on Friday. Not sure if I should really fill in the form. What a mess at every stage :mad:
I got an automated response from ombudsman saying that I will have to fill out a formal inquiry in the form of 7001. That's the form to fill out if you want ombudsman to inquire into your case.
